Hey,

Here's something to think sbout: Transportation rides usually have problems with theming (or is it themeing???). They travel between different themed areas, and have to fit in at each and every one.

I guess there is no way to get such rides 100% fitted to each area, or is there? So what methods are used to make it fit to as many themes as possible as good as possible?

New Post RE: Transportation
Parks seem to use one of several methods;

1. Link the transport to as many themes as possible (ie Disneyland Rail Road, which fits the theme of two stops.)
2. Find the unifying theme of the park, and base the ride on that (ie the former boats at IOA)
3. Create something that fits all the themes (such as the boats at the World Showcase.)

Something that seems possible, but I cannot think of ever having been done, is to create something that transcends the settings, such as a time machine.

Also, does anyone know what is responsible for the seeming decrease in transportation rides in new parks over the last few years?

New Post Re: RE: Transportation I guess transportation rides are not something you can market, so hence there is no reason to have them anymore?

New Post Re: RE: Transportation Then again, transportation rides can kill two birds with one stone (transport and attraction), so maybe it's something parks should think about more.

Using a transportation ride to soak up numbers would help customer satisfaction ratings.

Or, how about using a transportation ride to interrupt/replace the wait-line for another ride (ie, riding one ride to get to the line for another ride, meaning wait-times can be managed better at the other end).

New Post Re: RE: Transportation I think that one of the problems is that themed attractions are dependent on stories, and it is hard to put a good story into a transportation ride (though it could be done).

Might also be a management issue. Designers have a hard time justifying a large budget on a ride that "just moves people around," thus, they get a low budget and a bad ride. It might be telling that the most sucessful transport ride (Disneyland Railway) was not done on a small budget.
