Hello all,
I am currently a journalism junior at a university. However, I love theme parks and writing. How does one get involved with being a writer for attractions, shows, etc. for theme parks? I am very creative, and would love to work for a theme park designing attractions. Do you have to have a degree in engineering for that? Basically, how do I get started? Could I even use a journalism degree in this type of field?

Any answers would be appreciated.

There are some writers who work in the design process. They sometimes sit in on brainstorm meetings and take notes so that they can write a good narrative for proposed attractions and shows. I think that most of these writers are freelancers (but a lot of people in our industry are freelancers). One of our other members can probably tell you a little better how to get started as a writer. I think that a lot of companies also need people who write press releases, marketing pieces, etc. This might fit your major a bit more. Some parks probably employ writers to write the things that go out to newspapers, magazines and television to promote their attractions and resort amenities... it's all about finding ways to write with a lot of energy and think about what would make someone want to take a vacation there. If writing is what you love, stick with it. You may find that you want to do several different things in the course of your career, and writing can take you a lot of places Smile
