I was poking around online (I had a half-day at school), and I found El rio del tiempo's wikipedia page. It said it was renamed, and that the three caballeros were added. I had thought the ride was gone, it makes me feel sooo much better to know it's still there. Anyone know what the new version is like?

It's interesting, to say the least..

The old ride had this storyline no one really understood, particularly the symbolic change from the ancient culture to the colonial small-world style dolls. It was actually a falling star shooting through the sky spotted by the king which signaled the fall of the ancient people.

Surprisingly deep for a theme park ride, no?

So, all the screens are updated to modern touristy stuff with Donald and the other 2 Cabs searching for him. It's not bad really, a little franctic at time and disjointed, but the old version never made sense to 99% of the population, so it's an upgrade in cohesion to most.

The small-world-style doll scene is mostly the same, but is now celebrating the concert that night. The barker-style scene is replaced with a fiesta where you finally locate donald and drag him back.

The end is mostly the same but the creepy puppet stage is removed and replaced with a giant screen that has the 3 Cabs performing the concert - which is what Donald wandered off prior to, and thus the reason you went searching for him.

I am glad the creepy puppets are gone... I never understood why they went from realism, to Small World style and then weird marionettes. The original version felt like a different designer worked on each room... a little trippy. Adding the Caballeros at the very least makes it feel more cohesive.
