I’m curious – from the months prior to Disneyland’s opening to the present day when WED worked with Arrow Development, who have been Disney Imagineering’s partners/external sources for ride systems & vehicles in their parks around the world?
Hi there! I’m not sure the answer to that question. But we’ve got enough resources. Let’s see if we can find out.
Yeah, I hope so. I know that the Imagineers deserve a great deal of credit, but since the earliest, they have also farmed stuff out, whether because they don’t have the internal expertise, or need to meet a deadline. So beyond Arrow & say, Garner Holt, who have been their most frequent & trusted partners in bringing these attractions to fruition?
Many of their coasters have been from Vekoma (which, by the way, was connected to Arrow back in the day).
For a while Walt Disney had the philosophy that he was going to corner the market on all the creative talent. There was a shift that happened at some point, perhaps with Eisner, that they were going to farm out a lot of the work, use contractors and really help save the bottom line. Former Imagineer Jeff Burton once told me that it was a big deal when accountants started calling themselves Imagineers. Even so, I think if there’s a company that has some really great technology, bring it in, use it as a great storytelling device.
