Minecraft Overworld
Repurposing a Disgarded Mine into a Theme Park Destination
Immanuel D. Cruz – Senior
This is a conceptual project that serves as my undergraduate thesis for architecture school.
The project primarily focuses on the architectural spaces spaces provided with the addition of the theme, storyline, and flow of the park to solidify the conceptual project. The park challenges the notion of a typical theme park through the application of a gamified “first-person” approach where guests are the heroes or adventurers of the world. The approach aims to bring the magic of multiplayer MMORPG to life in a world where children can roam as warriors or mages once again.
- All conceptual rides were digitally sketched using Procreate.
- All architectural models were rendered using Revit and Lumion.
- Minecraft, its assets, textures, and icons are all copyright of Mojang and Microsoft.

Based on the menu screen, the main lobby is designed as if entering a game. The giant glass grass block sculpture serves as the skylight for the cable car station below.
Your journey begins at the picturesque Westfield where you explore your options and roam around before heading to the other towns.
Take a rest by the rivers, a place where parents can rest while the windmill turns. Accompanied by busking mobs, this scenic spot is the best place to relax and let your kids roam around.
Midtown Erev serves as the central hub of the world where parade performances are usually held. The clock has an LED backing where characters sometimes appear.
‘What Once Was’ was designed based on the initial concept art of the Ancient City. the “mouth” of the sculpture may also be converted into a giant screen for events (as seen from the image above).
Porkchops serves as a resting place before players traverse through Westfield. Fallstown and Dragon’s Roost can be seen in the background.
Fallstown is a play between Falls (waterfall) and False (fake) due to the houses being inaccessible and are meant as a guise for something more sinister around the area.
Dead trees and well curated topiaries dominate the entrance to Dragon’s Roost. This can also serves as an events place for private functions.
The castle is designed to look as random as possible yet forming an eerie face of a Creeper. Varying sandstone tints were used to increase the depth while different block ratio sizes were used as the height increases.
