YOU ARE NOW IN QUEUE:
NARRATIVE
Time Loop is an immersive roller coaster experience with a unique twist. Guests are tasked with a daring mission to escape a time loop that has trapped them in a surreal and distorted reality. The coaster track takes them on a thrilling journey through different time periods, complete with an inversion and unexpected twists.
As guests enter the queue, they encounter different rooms representing each time period, each with its own aesthetic and eerie atmosphere. Clocks are scattered throughout, but the correct time is only revealed on the turntable element of the coaster, creating a sense of mystery and anticipation.
After boarding the coaster, guests are propelled into the time loop, and the countdown of “3, 2, 1, GO!!” triggers as they enter the turntable, setting the stage for their mission to escape. The coaster takes them on a wild and visually stunning ride.
The climax of the ride occurs as guests are propelled out of the time loop, having successfully broken free from its grasp. Guests exit the coaster feeling triumphant, completing their mission and restoring the normal flow of time. “The Time Loop” promises an immersive and adrenaline-pumping adventure that combines the excitement of a roller coaster with a captivating time travel narrative. With its visually stunning effects, unexpected twists, and unique theming, it offers a one-of-a-kind experience for thrill-seekers and fans of time travel stories alike.
RIDE ELEMENTS
Turn Table: Uses a system of motors, sensors, and magnets to rotate track and ensure consistency:
- Ultrasonic Sensor: Senses when ride vehicle is on the turntable
- Touch Sensor: Ensures turntable rotates back to original position
- Large Motor: Rotates turntable
- Small Motor: Acts as a break and launch from turntable
- Neodymium Magnets: Ensure precise track lineup after rotation
Tire Launch: The launch has three main components:
- Downward Angle: Utilizes gravity to help launch the train into the loop
- Gear Ratio: Gear train allows tires to increase speed while only using one motor. Allows the train to increase speed at a constant rate and protects rides from whiplash.
- Two Motors: Motors working in tandem create stability in the the rod to the first gear in the gear train
P-Loop:
- Team designed loop that has never been implemented before in a roller coaster yet.
- Designed in the letter “P” to provide a better rider experience with more acceleration coming out of the loop.

ENGINEERING PROCESS
Mechanical Systems
- Three Phase coaster that included a track-switch, launch system, and a loop in the shape of the letter “P”.
- Calculations
- Solidworks 3-D Modeling
- Simulation and Analysis
- Consultation with machining professional
- Refer to Appendix A, Section 2 for full breakdown of the Mechanical Systems Design
Control Systems
- Controls for ride are used to stop, start, or make any special effects happen to the ride.
- Research
- Many different alternatives for what program and board to use.
- What can best improve our design with what we have
- Refer to Appendix A, Section 3 for full breakdown of the Control Systems Design
Safety
Block sections on Turntable & Launch
- Emergency stop halts the ride at the following block section when pressed at any point during operation
- Ultrasonic sensor notifies ride computer that the cart has safely made it to the track and begins the turn sequence
- Touch Sensor (limit switch) prevents table from overturning
- Neodymium Magnets align track after rotation
- Refer to Appendix A, Sections 5-8 for a full safety report
- The seats were 3D printed for a stability
- The design incorporates tight tolerances to protect the passengers and provide a smooth ride
- Each rider experiencing the maximum forces has an individual velcro
CONSTRUCTION PHASE
K’nex Prototype
Build Preparation
Materials
- A list of materials was made for the design of the ride
- Refer to Appendix A, Section 4 for the full bid proposal
- Methods
- Each part of the ride had a series of assembly steps to complete, so they were broken down into construction phases
- Once each phase was constructed individually, entire ride was constructed in a sequential order
THEME AND MARKETING
With a solid theme, there are endless opportunities for marketing. Decades fashion and aesthetics are making a huge comeback, meaning that selling themed merchandise would most likely be a big hit. Additionally, social media is an integral part of marketing, especially when trying to promote our ride to a younger audience. We plan to rely on Instagram and TikTok to gain attention and generate excitement! Ideas for merchandise includes and are not limited to clothing, warped watches, hats, P-Loop straws, warped clocks, warped clock jewelry. Refer to Appendix B, Section 3 for full Pinterest Board
