Love theme parks? Love trains? So do I, and I am thrilled to share my latest book—Ticket to Ride: America’s Theme Park Trains. This is a large hardcover coffee table book full of history and photographs of park railroads.
After Disneyland opened, all the regional parks that followed wanted a railroad. Some of the equipment included rebuilt vintage locomotives from the 19th century, but much was ordered new from a small metal shop in the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania. Over time some parks got rid of their trains, shipping them off to other owners. Tracing the journey for all of this has been tedious and a lot of fun. I’m very grateful to Michael Campbell, Disney railroad historian, for writing the foreword, and Bret Iwan, the official voice of Mickey Mouse, for the afterword. Dale Moore, former Disney Imagineer, illustrated the cover.
More information including pre-ordering is at RivershorePress.com. They will be manufactured over the summer and ship this fall.
